LIFE IN PROGRESS

I work outdoors as much as possible, weather permitting, which isn't a lot of the time in this part of the world. The studio is on the small side but when working on sculpture the focus is inward and beyond the four walls. A working space is not important unless it is a limitation on the size of work being created, which is coming close these days.

Last summer was full of new ideas and discoveries. A gathering of new directions and experience ... A time of sharing Ideas with good friends ... A time not to question but to absorb... and see where it goes in future work. Every thing has a reason, If it feels like the right thing to be doing then I give myself permission to follow that road. Some roads are dead ends. Then there are the roads that change the direction of our lives, discovered by taking that first step. Doing the things we feel good about, is never a waste of time.

This winter my focus is divided between working on new sculpture, and finishing some of the work on hand. It gets so exciting working on new pieces that it's difficult to do all the finishing touches to bring others to completion. To clarify this, think of learning something new, being excited and wanting to continue with new discoveries, but having to stop and go back. After all, the work is complete physically in my mind ... “Well, I can dream can't I ?”

I worked on concrete sculpture this past summer and found it a very friendly material. I am looking forward to the spring when once more I can swing open the doors to that larger outdoor studio and breath in the aroma of life. I feel the energy it holds, the spirit of new things to come.
